My recent business trip took me to Chicago, the Windy City. With a plethora of options for my hotel accommodations, picking the right one was quite a daunting task. Finally decided on the Conrad Chicago in the heart of downtown Chicago. The hotel has an ideal location, right in the midst of all the Chicago action.
The 17-story tower features premium suites and studios, which come equipped with full kitchens and living areas. It gave the place quite a homely appearance. The entrance lobby was quite classy, nothing too pretentious. I picked one of the Conrad Chicago, with a queen size bed. The room was perfect, with a kitchen comprising of a refrigerator, oven, microwave, coffee maker and wet bar, ideal to fix that midnight or early morning snack.
The other room options include the larger and more lavish Double Studios and One Bedroom Suites, which consist of separate living and dining areas.
One of the best features of the Conrad Chicago hotel is the complimentary continental breakfast, consisting of fresh coffee, assorted teas, juices and muffins. The rooms also come with cable T.V., On-Command Movies, two line phones with voicemail and data ports for all those keen on surfing the web while on vacation. All these features make this an ideal spot for the business traveler.
Food was absolutely no issue on this trip. The kitchen and the in-suite breakfast in itself were quite sufficient to satisfy my appetite. For those looking for a change, there are ample options to experiment with. The two in-house restaurants, Houston’s and Andrew’s are local favorites. Houston’s, with its fine wood décor and low lighting creates a subtle romantic atmosphere. The restaurant offers a classic American menu, with favorites such as prime rib with baked potatoes, fish specials, and an abundance of salads and sandwiches. Houston’s is popular for its live music every evening. If you are tired of the in-suite breakfast or need to grab a quick lunch before your busy day gets going, then Andrew’s is the place to be. All in all, this Chicago area offers food for every taste with over 40 restaurants around the Lenox Suites area, including the famous Pizzeria Uno, the inventor of the Chicago-style deep-dish pizza.
Finally, for those looking to check out the downtown Chicago area, there are enough places to keep you busy for a while. The Navy Pier is another major tourist attraction, which caters to all ages. An IMAX theater, the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the Children’s Museum and an old fashioned amusement park complete with a Ferris wheel, swing ride and a carousel make the Navy Pier a must see. Other attractions include the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum and Adler Planetarium (which together form the Museum campus), the Art Institute of Chicago and the Sears Tower.
My stay at the Conrad Chicago hotel was truly an unforgettable one. From excellent hospitality and service to a fine living experience with great cuisine, the place offers it all. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who plans on visiting Chicago for their next vacation or business trip.
